OK, so it's been a while since I last wrote here. And in case you can't guess by the nature of that post, it's been a really wild and crazy time. A quick update: Things with the boss have calmed down a bit. We talked a couple of times, but haven't had a really clear resolution. But then we've had to deal with all kinds of other things so our person issues are kind of a back burner issue now. Remodeling is moving along in fits and starts. We've managed to convince the work guys that they can't just walk into group rooms while groups are happening. We've sorted out where all the groups are going to be for now. We've convinced the clients that the world isn't going to end over this. Now if we could just convince the powers that be to MAKE UP THEIR FREAKING MINDS ABOUT THIS GOD FORSAKEN PROJECT we'd really be getting somewhere.
School has started again. This semester I'm taking Classifiers (a part of speech not found in English but makes up over 60% of ASL usage) and Interpreting 2. So far classes have been fun except for the part where we were told in no uncertain terms that as a class our skills were far below expectations. In fact they were below where they were at the end of last semester (so I guess we deserved it). Now we have the first project due in Classifiers, and since the students are mostly the same in both classes it will be interesting to see how our teacher in Classifiers reacts to our skills. I know that I was rather dissapointed by my peer assessor's critique in interpreting - she didn't tell me anything useful just that she thought I'd done everything well (when I knew that I had completely messed up on parts). So now we are required to use ASL only in class except when practicing interpreting skills or playing the hearing person in role plays. I think it's a good idea, but some of my classmates were complaining about it after class.
So, even will all the homework, I've managed to find time to have fun. Hense the title of this post. We went to a friend's house tonight for dinner and games. We played "Once Upon a Time" a story telling card game. We played about 8 times, and in most of our stories a blind llama played a part. She was the curse, the love interest, the steed and several other random parts. We also kept running across the shepardess who played a variety or roles as well. All in all we laughed ourselves silly trying to get the story to come around to our ending. We also had time to eat wonderful food and chat with good friends.
It's nice to find time to do such things. To take the time to ignore responsibilities and deadlines for an evening is something wonderful. I suggest everyone try it sometime.
