Last night was Yule (Winter Solstice) and in it's honor Sweetie and I hosted a ritual/party. At the request of a friend I designed and led a short Discordian ritual. Now since it was a week night, turnout was small, but we did managed to get enough people that all the parts were covered without duplication.
I thought a community building/blessings ritual would be most appropriate, so that's what we focused on. After giving thanks for the blessings we have recieved in the past year, we offered blessings to each other (and others who could not be present). We imagined the blessings going into the cookies sitting on the alter. When we'd filled them as full as we could, we all ate one.
Then this afternoon I went down to the shop where I show my jewelry, and was met with a great big smile on the face of the proprieter and a "you just missed it."
"Missed what?" I asked, finding the smile contagious I started smiling too, though not quite sure why
"A big sale." If possible his smile got even bigger.
"Ooh." I said, "What sold?"
"The headdress."
My jaw dropped to the floor. That's a $150 sale. I never really expected it to sell (mostly because it was sized to the styrofoam head meant for storing wigs that I display it on). Mostly I just had it there because it's impressive and it draws attention to the cheaper jewelry that I expect to sell to the Downtown set who shops there.
Prior to this I've had a couple of nibbles from people possibly interested in having a headdress made for them, but they've never panned out. Now I'm going to have to make a new display headdress (not that I'm complaining - that's a really cool way to wind up the year).
When I managed to get my jaw back up off the floor I completed the delivery that I'd gone down there for and then floated my way back to work. So it seems that at least some of the Yule blessings are already coming true.
