   stuff

Life is full of stuff. Some of it solid and needs to be moved from time to time. Some of it etherial and just shows up when it wants to. My life is full of both kinds of stuff, and frankly I think it's about time to either get rid of some of it for find more space/time for it.

In the physical stuff catagory, Sweetie and I have been struggling since he moved in to find places for all of our stuff. The condo is over crowded and we still don't know where most of it belongs. We've taken large amounts of it, boxed it and stuck it in the rafters of the garage. It's not enough. We are still tripping over our stuff all the time, and yet we can't seem to stop aquiring more stuff. This particular problem has been enhanced by my mother (who is having her own stuff issues as she prepares to sell her house and help my brother build a new one). She keeps finding stuff that she doesn't want anymore and gives it to us - well offers it anyway. We are particularily good at saying "no thank you" Mostly because we do want the stuff, we just don't have any space for it.

In the etherial stuff catagory, my time is as full as my house. I have about a million things that I want to do, and not enough time to do it all. Not even enough time to do half of it, I'm lucky if I can schedule an eighth of it. I'm looking forward to the start of school and realizing that when that happens, I'm going to have even less time to do all the other things that I want to do. It comes down to doing only the things that I have to do because that takes up all the time in a day leaving nothing left for other things.

So, how are all the rest of you handling all of your stuff?

Actually, I've been conquering the physical stuff pretty well this past week. I unpacked some boxes from our move from over 2 years ago, FINALLY, and threw out over 2 trash bags full of crap. The craft room is fianlly coming together :)

We still have a mess of stuff in boxes in the basement. and of course we've collected more stuff since caresen's mum sent several boxes to us over the last couple of years while clearing out her storage.

An intercontinental move can do wonders for your ability to cull stuff from your life. Barring that, we do the "sticking it in the rafters" trick too....but I have done my best to simplify; I now have a rule that if I don't use or at least look at something at least once in a year, it isn't worth the space it's taking up and I won't miss it when it's gone.

Well, I 'left' and put all of it in too small of storage locker. We will see if any of it ever realy gets unpacked or if it will just add to the tings from my past I can't get rid of.

On summer when I was staying in the Twin Cities I still had a few boxes I never moved out of my car. (A dorm room of stuff didn't fit in my room at my cousins.) On day at the end of the summer after spending a week in South Dakota I was driving back to the Twin Cities conteplating the return to Morris. I figured I could have just skipped going back to the Twin Cities and went straight to Morris and about the only thing I would have missed was my beding. I didn't, but boy it was temptig..... (I am still have all that stuff, and probably haven't used most if it since then either.)
